Original Dixieland Jass Band
Original Dixieland Jass Band was a pioneering formation in the origin and evolution of jazz, with origin in New Orleans, United States, to which the first jazz recordings are attributed in the year 1917.
The quintet consisted of clarinet Larry Shields, cornet Nick La Rocca, trombone Eddie Edwards, pianist Henry Ragas and drummer Tony Sbarbaro. The group arose in Chicago, at the initiative of the owner of a local club, which took them from the south and made them debut under the name of "Stein's Dixie Jazz Band". After a dispute with the latter over economic issues, they moved to New York, already under the name of Original Dixieland Jass Band, although an announcement of a performance in the New York Times, already in 1917, definitely turned the Jass into Jazz. Today, they are known by their initials, ODJB.
